Care Home Open Week hit new heights again in 2025, with thousands of care teams across the country taking part in activities that built connections with their local community.
The Great British Care Cycle Relay returned for its third year, alongside CHOW, and a launch event attended by around 100 care sector leaders raised the curtain on the week of activity.
Care Home Open Week is organised by Championing Social Care and this year was strengthened by new partnerships. A Power of Music theme ran through the week thanks to a partnership with Music for Dementia. The team at Glad to Care also ran their activities week in parallel with Open Week, adding new resources for care teams to use.
The launch event was hosted at the recently opened Loveday Belgravia home. The highlight was the conclusion of the Great British Care Cycle Relay, which saw a team of around 30 riders complete the final leg of the Relay at the home. The Relay ran over five days and covered more than 500km, visiting care homes across the country along the way. In all, more than 70 riders took part.
Organisers hailed the event as a symbol of the sector’s strength and unity. Programme Chair, Mitesh Dhanak said:
“Care Home Open Week goes from strength to strength. We were delighted to see so many homes get involved again this year, especially the increased engagement with Scotland and Wales. It’s a tribute to what we can achieve as a sector when we come together to celebrate our core values.”
Speakers at the launch event included Josh Fenton-Glynn MP, a member of Parliament’s Health and Social Care Select Committee. He told attendees:
“We know that there’s no future for the NHS without a working, functional, vibrant care system and that care employs the same number of people as the health service. And we have to really underline the fact that the care work that they provide is skilled work, and they should be supported for that.
The best care homes are communities for people’s families, for their residents and go into the broader community and are part of that community. So I really welcome Care Home Open Week as a chance to show that there are brilliant, committed people working every day to give our loved ones the best care and support in life.”
Around 100 Members of Parliament visited care teams in their constituencies during Care Home Open Week.
Sarah Metcalfe, MD of Music for Dementia says “Music brings care homes alive and we were thrilled to be partners on this year’s Power of Music theme. Congratulations to everyone who took part and celebrated the brilliant work done by care staff across the country, all year round.“
Sian Hammer, Managing Director of Loveday, added:
“It was a privilege to host the launch of Care Home Open Week 2025 at Loveday Belgravia and celebrate with so many inspiring leaders from across the sector. This week is all about opening our doors, sharing ideas and showcasing the excellence that exists within social care. At Loveday, we are proud to be at the forefront of a new era in care, one defined by innovation, integrity and the pursuit of transforming lives for those we support.”
